According to a new report from eMarketer, marketing leaders aren’t using Generative AI enough to meet the technology’s perceived potential. Truthfully, this comes as no surprise to me. As you likely know, I lead AI Transformations and Trainings for a wide variety of companies and agencies. My takeaway is most marketers have played with some generative AI tools, but they don’t fully grasp how to use this tech strategically yet.
How Marketers Are Using Generative AI
eMarketer says marketers currently use generative AI the most for data analysis (39%) and market research (35%). Though 59% of marketers see potential for generative AI in copywriting, just 26% use it for that purpose.

Beyond the chart:
- The potential marketers saw for generative AI in April 2023 didn’t match up with how they were actually using the tech in November 2023.
- Nearly one-fourth (24.0%) of people in the US will use generative AI at work in 2025, per our June 2023 forecast. That’s up from 13.3% in 2023. As more people adopt the tech, it could fulfill its early potential.
- Marketers disagree over Sam Altman’s prediction that generative AI will handle 95% of what they do today. However, they should still be upskilling now for how AI will impact creative work.
All of this goes to show that companies need to invest in training so their teams can truly understand how to operationalize generative AI across their campaigns and workflows. The marketing teams I work with want to understand how to use generative AI ethically and responsibly to generate content.
The Real Potential of Gen AI: Custom LLMs or Agents
I find it compelling that many of the understood applications of generative AI still center around creating images and copywriting. Sure, research and data analysis, coding and customer service also make the list. But, the greatest potential for generative AI is in strategic planning, workflow management, and direct customer engagement through AI Agents. And, I am still finding that most marketers don’t yet know about this rising trend.
Custom LLM (Large Language Model) enabled agents are powerful entities that promise to revolutionize the way we work, shop, and engage online. As we stand on the brink of this paradigm shift, it’s crucial to understand how LLM agents can be harnessed to drive innovation and optimize workflows.
Reinventing Tasks with LLM Agents
LLM agents are poised to become the catalysts for task reinvention across industries. By automating processes, analyzing data, and assisting human teams, these intelligent entities open up a world of possibilities for enhanced productivity and efficiency.
LLM agents can tackle complex tasks from start to finish, leveraging their ability to orchestrate multiple decisions, tools, and resources seamlessly. This fluid design and architecture enable businesses to reimagine their workflows and unlock new levels of performance.
Choosing the Right Framework
When integrating LLM agents into your business ecosystem, it’s essential to choose the right framework. Single-agent frameworks are ideal for simpler tasks that require a focused approach. These agents can streamline processes and provide targeted assistance, making them valuable assets for specific functions within an organization. On the other hand, multi-agent frameworks are designed for more complex tasks that demand collaboration and coordination. By enabling multiple agents to work together, businesses can tackle intricate challenges and achieve broader goals.
Transforming Workflows and Empowering Employees
LLM agents have the potential to transform workflows across various domains, from customer service and sales to data analysis and project management. By automating repetitive tasks and providing intelligent support, these agents empower employees to focus on higher-value activities that require human creativity and critical thinking. This not only boosts productivity but also fosters a more engaging and fulfilling work environment.
Moreover, LLM agents can handle complex tasks that were previously beyond the scope of traditional automation, opening up new avenues for business growth and innovation.
Fueling Business Reinvention
The integration of LLM agents into business processes offers fresh ways to fuel reinvention and stay ahead of the curve. By leveraging the power of these intelligent entities, organizations can optimize their operations, enhance customer experiences, and uncover new opportunities for growth.
LLM agents can analyze vast amounts of data, providing valuable insights and recommendations that inform strategic decision-making. They can also adapt to changing market dynamics and customer preferences, enabling businesses to remain agile and responsive in the face of evolving challenges.
As we stand on the precipice of this new era, the potential of LLM agents to transform the business landscape is immense. By reinventing tasks, choosing the right frameworks, and transforming workflows, organizations can harness the power of these intelligent entities to drive productivity, innovation, and growth. The integration of LLM agents into business processes is not just a trend; it’s a strategic imperative for those seeking to stay ahead in an increasingly competitive and dynamic world.
