Canva changed course on their planned, and very unpopular, price hike this evening.
The company faced significant backlash after announcing a price hike of up to 300% for its Teams subscription plans, set to begin in December 2024. The changes led many customers to cancel subscriptions or switch from Teams to individual accounts. In response, Canva is now rolling back its planned price increase.
Teams users can continue to add up to four members at no additional cost, despite earlier plans to transition to a per-user pricing model.
Addressing the feedback, Canva stated:
“Earlier this year, we discontinued our early pricing for teams on Canva, which included having up to five people at no extra cost. We planned to gradually transition Canva Teams subscribers to our standard pricing, reflecting the expanded value of our product over the past four years. We listened carefully to the feedback we received about these changes, and we’ve decided not to change your Canva Teams plan pricing. No action is needed on your part.”
Canva has also launched a “Pricing Promise” initiative to regain customer trust and is making it easy for users to revert to their original subscription settings.
Canva’s New Pricing Promise
The company says this a philosophy aimed at guiding its future pricing decisions while ensuring “fair and transparent prices for our entire community.” This approach emphasizes transparency, fairness, and accessibility.
“Creating a product loved by more than 190 million people is the foundation of everything we do. It’s this passion that underscores our mission to empower the world to design and our commitment to continue developing Canva alongside all of you,” the platform stated.
Canva’s pricing promise outlines the following commitments:
- Always at an affordable price: Canva pledges to continue offering a range of affordable plans for everyone, whether in premium options or free plans for individuals, nonprofits, or educational institutions.
- Added value: The company will continuously invest in features and improvements to ensure users enjoy the best experience. As Canva grows, it will provide more tools for everyone.
- Transparent and timely communication: Canva promises to always provide at least 60 days’ notice of any price changes, giving users ample time to plan.
- Fair prices tailored to the country: Prices will be adjusted to reflect the economic conditions of each country, ensuring Canva remains accessible to everyone, no matter where they live.
- No hidden fees: Users will always pay the price they see published. Canva commits to offering clear prices with no hidden costs.
How to revert changes after the recent pricing notifications:
- Undo a cancellation: Visit your Billing & Plans page and select “Stay on Canva Teams,” if your subscription is still active.
- Add removed members: Follow instructions in the “Add or remove people in a team or class” section.
- Resubscribe to Canva Teams pricing: If your subscription ended, contact Canva’s support team.
- Switch back to Canva Teams from Canva Pro: Reach out to the support team for assistance.
- Revert to a previous billing interval: Use the “Change a Canva Pro or Canva Teams plan” section.
I am sure this news comes as a relief to fans of the graphic design platform. Let me know if you cancelled your account and whether or not you’re willing to return now that they’ve called off the price hike.
