AI in Education: New Federal Guidance & Funding Opportunities

The U.S. Department of Education just issued major new guidance on Artificial Intelligence in education and for the first time, it’s inviting the public to weigh in on how AI should be used, regulated, and funded in our schools.

This is a pivotal moment. The Department has proposed a new supplemental funding priority that would allow schools and organizations to receive federal grant support for AI-integrated programs.

Consider the importance of an AI-literate workforce. This is a critical time and this is why we license our classes to colleges and universities to ensure the next generation is prepared for an AI world.

New Funding Priorities Include:

  • AI literacy and computer science education for students
  • Professional development for teachers to use AI responsibly
  • Personalized learning tools that adapt to student needs
  • AI to streamline administration, advising, and support services
  • Strong emphasis on responsible, equitable, and ethical AI use

All of this is outlined in Docket ID: ED-2025-OS-0118 and public comments are open until August 20, 2025.

Why This Matters:

This guidance doesn’t just affect future federal grants, it will shape how AI is introduced, regulated, and taught in U.S. classrooms for years to come. Educators, technologists, parents, school leaders, we all need to weigh in.

You don’t have to be a lawyer or policy expert. Just speak from experience:

  • What excites you about AI in education?
  • What concerns you — around privacy, bias, or student dependency?
  • What kinds of tools, training, or safeguards would help?

Here’s how to submit your comment:

  1. Go to this website.
  2. Add your comment (even a couple of paragraphs is enough)
  3. Submit by August 20, 2025

Let’s not sit on the sidelines while these decisions are made. This is our moment to shape the future of education to ensure AI is used in ways that empower students, support teachers, and protect equity.
